Who We Are
As a family of graphics professionals, everyone at Miller Designworks truly enjoys helping our clients solve challenges. We place a high value on direct communication between our clients and our creative staff. The dedicated group, several of whom have been with Steve from the start, bring a strong commitment to doing whatever it takes to make our clients look good. This commitment shows in the high level of creative work, the numerous industry awards, and mostly in the successful long-term relationships with our clients. That’s the kind of trust that takes years to earn.
Steve Miller
Steve became the president and owner of Miller Designworks in 1990. Since then he has built the firm to include seven senior-level art directors, a new business director and an operations manager. Over the years, the firm has evolved from a traditional print graphic/design firm to a prominent, award-winning industry player providing web and multimedia design solutions as well. While his responsibilities include day-to-day management, Steve spends the majority of his time with client interaction, as he is committed to ongoing relationship-building to ensure the proper design alliance. His level of dedication to his clients is reflected in many long-term relationships including CertainTeed with whom he has partnered for more than 25 years. He views his clients and his employees like family. In fact, many of his employees have been working with Steve for more than 20 years.
Steve’s design career began in 1984 when he joined Bennett Designworks as an art director. He was responsible for every phase of the design process, including creative conceptual development, client support, and project coordination and production. While acting as senior art director, he was instrumental in developing many award-winning pieces including one for WHYY TV-12 (PBS), plus several honors from the Art director’s Club of Philadelphia. In 1990, Steve purchased the company, then called Bennett Miller, and rebranded it as Miller Designworks.
Steve is a 1984 graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. There he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in graphic design and a minor in pottery.
Nancy Johnson
In 2004, Nancy Johnson joined Miller Designworks as their first New Business Director. Her responsibilities include building new business relationships with large and mid-sized organizations.
Prior to joining Miller Designworks, Nancy was a sales exhibit representative for TCB Displays where she worked with clients such as AstraZeneca, GMAC Finance and Cardone Industries for large, custom trade show displays and portable exhibits.
Nancy’s 20-plus years of experience include seven years with ARAMARK Corporation where she was Director of Sales and earned numerous honors including the Million Dollar Club, President and Vice President Awards.
Complementing her sales capabilities is her public relations experience with Weightman Advertising and Graduate Hospital where she specialized in media relations. Nancy graduated from Villanova University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She was a Features Editor of the award-winning University newspaper, The Villanovan.
Lee Fitler
Since March of 2004, Lee Fitler has been providing award-winning graphic design solutions for various Miller Designworks clients. Overall, his 15 years of experience includes all types of print design, with additional expertise in environmental graphics.
Formerly, Lee was employed at Steve Pinkston & Others, Inc., as senior designer. He was in charge of all projects including annual reports, packaging, advertising campaigns, logos and environmental graphic design (EGD). Some of Lee’s most visible EGD projects included “way-finding” signage packages for the new home of the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers, the Wachovia Center; graphics and signage for the Philadelphia Eagles at their Nova Care training center; court design and locker room graphics for the Philadelphia 76ers; ice design for the Philadelphia Flyers; and a “way-finding” package for the Colleseo de Puerto Rico. His other EGD clients include commercial development companies, city boroughs, hospitals and architectural firms.
In 1993, Lee received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design from Kutztown University.
Betsy Ennis
A 25-year veteran in the marketing communications industry, Betsy is the Operations Manager for Miller Designworks where she began working in 1990. Her current responsibilities include all facets of the business management of the studio, job traffic, and providing production support to the art directors as needed. Her knowledge and expertise is often utilized in handling special projects for a number of clients including CertainTeed, BDP International and Johnson & Johnson. Her innate organizational skills, creativity and passion for customer service excellence have earned Betsy the respect of clients and vendors alike.
Prior to joining Miller Designworks, Betsy pursued her interest in the emerging medium of corporate video production when she joined a suburban Philadelphia company in 1998. In addition to developing new business, she also worked as a producer on many video projects. Responsibilities included orchestrating local talent and film crews for the productions, as well as working directly with clients on location and in the on-screen interview process.
Previously, Betsy was the sales manager at Bennett Designworks, where she first met Steve Miller (who later bought the company and rebranded it Miller Designworks). In this position, she was solely responsible for cultivating all sales leads, conducting presentations for new business, as well as ongoing client contact for all project activity. Notable clients included Congoleum and American Olean Tile.
She began her career in 1980 as the marketing-communications coordinator for CertainTeed’s Roofing Division. Her responsibilities included development and implementation of all promotional literature, and coordination of trade advertising with the agency of record. While at CertainTeed, she also managed the entire national sales meeting process from site selection to all on-site organizational responsibilities for a 200-member sales force.
Marshall Oram
Marshall Oram brings over 10 years of brand building web design and multimedia expertise to his current clients. He joined Miller Designworks in the fall of 2007, from Tminus1 Creative Group of Exton.
His well-rounded experience includes both corporate and agency work, with a strong foundation in business education. Earlier, he worked at Boyd Tamney Cross Advertising Agency with clients including Sun & Earth and Hyatt Regency. Marshall’s career began at IBM, where he was a graphic designer, team lead, and multimedia designer for their Sales Support Americas organization.
Marshall received his Bachelor of Sciences degree from Washington & Lee University, where he majored in Business Administration.
Scott Sharadin
Scott Sharadin joined Miller Designworks in 1990. He is the Creative Director as well as Lead Multimedia Director, responsible for overseeing all interactive and web design projects. He stays hands-on in a variety of projects including DVD, video, animation and environmental design. Scott has also conducting training in different areas for other art directors as well as clients.
In addition to receiving a number of design industry awards, Scott has helped Miller Designworks receive BDP’s Partner Vision Award three years in a row. This award reflects the commitment to partnering MDW brings its clients.
Previously, Scott was President of DigitalLight, one of the area’s first multi-media design services company. He was responsible for developing animation, 3D modeling, speaker support materials, as well as interactive electronic newsletters. Before DigitalLight, Scott was a senior designer and production manager at Art 270, Inc., where he was responsible for implementing and managing the electronic design systems in the studio. Prior to Art 270, Scott was a senior designer and Director of Photography for the NFL Alumni in Ft. Lauderdale, where he was responsible for setting up and running their in-house studio and darkroom.
Scott graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He majored in Graphic Design and minored in Photography.
Helene Calci
For over 20 years, award-winning designer Helene Calci has been a lead art director for major business-to-business corporations as well as health care organizations. Her recent achievements include two Platinum Marcom Awards (2006, 2007) for brochures for her clients SunGard and Chestnut Hill Hospital.
An active member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Helene is a past secretary to the board of the Philadelphia chapter. Prior to joining Miller Designworks, Helene was employed as an Art Director at Godfrey Advertising in Lancaster, PA from 1984 to 1988. She provided graphic design, account management and production services for clients including AMP and The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
Helene graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Tyler School of Art at Temple University, where she majored in graphic design. Among her accomplishments while in college, she spent a semester abroad in Rome, and received “Best of the Student Show Award Rome” in 1982 and the “Best Female Designer-Camac Award” in 1984.
Helene Speer
An integral part of the Miller Designworks multimedia team since 1995, Helene Zisook Speer brings a broad range of multimedia programming skills to all of her clients. She has been instrumental in the success of numerous award-winning interactive projects.
Her notable clients include CertainTeed, Whirlpool, SunGard and Lutron. Helene’s strengths include application development in Flash and Director as well as print production design.
Prior to joining Miller Designworks, Helene worked in marketing at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, as well as contract positions at many Philadelphia-area companies.
Helene graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
Laura Schetzsle
Laura Schetzsle brings over five years of print and interactive expertise to Miller Designworks. She was previously the senior graphic designer at Synthesis Design in Haddonfield, NJ, where her clients included Johnson & Johnson’s Centocor Pharmaceuticals, the John Wayne Museum and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library.
Earlier, Laura provided freelance design services including logo and identity development as well as complementary print collateral for multiple clients in California. Her other work experiences include her tenure at Hillier Architecture, where she worked closely with clients such as the Princeton Medical Center Breast Healthcare Center and the City of Miami Beach. In addition to traditional print design services, Laura specialized in developing comprehensive “way finding” (maps and directional signage) systems.
Prior to Hillier, Laura worked for PMDi Architecture where clients including The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Roche Pharmaceuticals.
A 2004 graduate of Drexel University, Laura earned numerous honors and awards including Dean’s List and National Honor Society. She was a scholarship member of the varsity women’s volleyball team, and received the American East Conference Scholar Athlete Award among other accomplishments.
